"For this film we mostly used a traditional shooting method. But we also used special CG for the camerawork and for multiple effects, which we couldn't shoot in any other way. When we started planning, Kawasaki brought foreign films to show us what kind effects he wanted. His demands were quite easy to understand. On the other hand, he expected very realistic effects, so we were under a lot of pressure, and we had to repeat trial after trial until we got it right. The climax of our CG can be found when the Ark is destroyed. We enjoyed destroying it completely with Kawasaki's permission. We used 3-D CG for the Ark, but the actual method is quite two-dimensional. We used software called Houdini. This software imports different textures depending on the point of view you use. It is almost like virtual 3-D. Houdini is very flexible software. You can endlessly experiment with variations. That's why we decided to use this software for the film."
